Gabriel Teixeira

Biography//

 

Gabriel Teixeira is a Brazilian pianist and composer whose passion for classical music and film scores has propelled him to remarkable works in both fields. Born in Canoas, Porto Alegre, Gabriel obtained his Bachelor's degree in Composition from the University of Sao Paulo (UNESP) and completed his Master's degree in Composition from Azusa Pacific University, studying under Dr. Phil Shackleton.
Gabriel has studied with renowned composers such as Alexandre Lunsqui, Flo Menezes, Achille Picchi, Antonio Ribeiro, and Rodrigo Vitta. In 2021, he was selected as a composition mentee at Curtis Summer Mentorship, where he further honed his skills under the guidance of Daniel Felsenfeld.

Gabriel's music has been drawing attention, and he has been fortunate to have opportunities in both classical music and film scores. In 2022, his piece "Kite" for flute, viola, and cello won second place in a prestigious composer's competition hosted by the New York ensemble "Eight Strings and a Whistle."

At APU, Gabriel worked on several film scores that were premiered at Warner Brothers Studios. One of his compositions, the score for "Cat City," was played live by APU's Studio Orchestra at the College of the Arts Industry Spotlight, directed by Prof. Mark Gasbarro. 

Most recently, Gabriel's piece "Baião No. 1" was performed by the Azusa Pacific University's Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. John Burdett. The ensemble brought to life Gabriel's unique blend of Brazilian rhythms with contemporary classical music, captivating audiences with its energy and vitality. With an impressive portfolio of work and a diverse set of skills, Gabriel Teixeira is a composer to watch in the world of classical music and film scores.
